Seoul, Korea, May 27, 2025 — Global leading tire company Hankook Tire & Technology (Hankook Tire) is set to electrify the Chinese motorsport scene at the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix, a double-header event in the 2024/2025 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship (hereafter Formula E). As the exclusive tire supplier and official technical partner of Formula E, Hankook brings the GEN3 Evo iON Race tires to one of the most technically challenging and visually striking tracks on the calendar.
Making its debut as a title race in Shanghai, the 2025 Hankook Shanghai E-Prix doubles the excitement with back-to-back races on May 31 and June 1. Held at the world-renowned Shanghai International Circuit, this year’s double-header promises an exhilarating showcase of thrilling action and technical mastery.
Measuring 3.051 km in length, the circuit demands tire durability, grip, and temperature management from drivers and teams. From heavy braking zones to sweeping curves, the circuit’s dynamic nature requires absolute control, adaptive strategies, and peak tire performance throughout the race weekend.
Hankook’s GEN3 Evo iON Race tire is engineered specifically for these conditions. Developed exclusively for Formula E’s cutting-edge GEN3 Evo race cars, the tire features an advanced tread profile and specialized rubber compound that optimize grip, thermal management, and cornering performance across demanding urban layouts.
In line with Formula E’s sustainability objectives, the GEN3 Evo iON Race tire is also composed of 35% sustainable materials. Designed for extended durability throughout the weekend, all tires are collected post-race and processed, reinforcing the company’s commitment to circularity and environmental stewardship.
"The Shanghai International Circuit presents unique challenges with its combination of high-speed straights and technical corners that truly test our tire technology," said Manfred Sandbichler, Senior Director of Hankook Motorsports. "Our GEN3 Evo iON Race tire delivers only just speed, but also the adaptability, reliability and control that drivers need on such a demanding track, continuing to set the standard for electric vehicle racing worldwide."
Leveraging its EV racing tire expertise developed through Formula E, Hankook is strengthening its position as a key electrification partner for EV brands in China—one of the world’s largest electric vehicle markets. Since launching the world’s first full lineup of EV-exclusive tires under the iON brand in China in 2023, Hankook has been expanding its brand presence through strategic partnerships with major Chinese EV manufacturers including BYD, Denza, IM Motors, Leapmotor, and SERES.
